Maximize Your John Deere 2 Series: Implements that Handle More Than Just Mowing

11/30/2025
John Deere 2 Series

The John Deere 2 Series ranges from 24-36 horsepower and Category 1 three-point hitch compatibility. That means any model in the 2 Series is capable of far more than just lawn care. If you’re only using your compact tractor for mowing, you’re missing out on versatility that will turn your machine into a year-round workhorse.

Front-End Loader: Your Foundation

Most operators purchase a tractor that comes with a front-end loader. If that’s not true in your case, this is the first implement you should consider. A loader bucket will handle basic material hauling, and pallet forks will handle hay bales and building materials.

Level up with a mechanical self-leveling loader to keep your bucket level automatically, minimizing material loss.

Box Blade: For Grading and Leveling

Box blades are designed to grade and level material like loose dirt or gravel–think driveways, lots, building sites. The adjustable scarifiers break up compaction while front and rear cutting blades scrape and level the broken material. After a rainy season, the box blade may be your driveway’s only hope.

Pro Tip: For Mississippi’s clay soils, use scarifiers to break up the compacted soil. Then, make a few light passes for best results.

Rotary Tiller: Soil Preparation

A rotary tiller is a quick way to make the most of your tractor’s PTO capabilities. Break up sod and mix nutrients into your garden bed or food plot. This attachment is ideal for creating seedbeds in no time.

Tip: Wait until the soil is slightly moist–not wet–before tilling.

Landscape Rake: Clearing and Grading

A landscape rake is an excellent addition for basic land maintenance. For clearing rocks, roots, and fall debris, this attachment is ideal when prepping new planting areas. It can also double as a grading tool by spreading gravel or prepping a seedbed. Unlike a box blade, a landscape rake is easy to operate around obstacles.

Post Hole Digger: No More Hand-Digging

This one speaks for itself. If you’ve ever dug fence holes by hand, we don’t need to tell you why this is a must-have. With varying auger sizes, a post hole digger is great for fencing, tree planting, and basic post setting.

Rear Blade: Drainage Systems and Snow Clearance

Rear blades offer a simple solution to ditch grading, road crowning, and snow clearance. With basic left and right angling, you can easily push material from walkways or reshape your driveway for optimal drainage.

Backhoe: Major Excavation

The 270B backhoe is compatible with the John Deere 2 Series. This mini excavator offers impressive breakout force and a 7-foot digging depth. For property and homeowners, this is often more than capable of your basic digging tasks.
