John Deere Quick-Attach Systems Explained

John Deere Quick-Attach

If you’ve ever wrestled with three-point hitch pins or struggled with lift arms while crouched behind your tractor, you understand the value of a quick-attach system. Traditional Category 1 three-point hitches work well but require tedious alignment and manual pin insertion every time you change implements. For Mississippi property owners with various tasks and a wide range of necessary attachments–rotary cutters, box blades, tillers, and more–those minutes add up quickly over the course of a season. Quick-attach systems solve this issue by using hooks to secure implements with connection hardware in a matter of seconds.

John Deere iMatch

John Deere’s exclusive iMatch Quick-Hitch system replaces your standard three-point hitch system. Three hooks replace your traditional connection points. Once your implements are fitted with the correct bushings (and adapters, if necessary), connection is as simple as backing up to the implement, raising the hitch arms, waiting for the hooks to engage the pins, and flipping the lock levers. The best part? You don’t even have to leave the driver’s seat.

Requirements: Your implements need a bushing kit. This is generally affordable, and the cost will be quickly offset by the time you gain in swapping implements.

Compatibility: John Deere Category 1 and Frontier implements. Not compatible with most backhoes or post hole diggers.

Alternative Systems

While there are aftermarket quick-hitch systems available, you may quickly run into compatibility and warranty issues. If you purchased a used tractor equipped with an alternative hitch system, contact your local WADE, Inc. to discuss your options for getting the most out of your equipment.

When Quick-Hitching Makes Sense

Take an honest look at how frequently you’re changing attachments. Are you switching three or four times a week? With iMatch, you’ll save 30-45 minutes a week–that’s over 30 hours a year. At that rate, switching to iMatch will pay itself off in no time.

Quick-hitch systems are particularly beneficial to operators who are juggling multiple maintenance tasks or property owners who are frequently working solo.

When Standard Hitches Will Work

If you tend to change implements every few weeks to a month, a standard three-point hitch is adequate for your needs. Well-versed users can often align attachments in under 10 minutes. It may be annoying, but it’s not prohibitive until you’re swapping implements several times over the course of the week.

If you’re frequently working with incompatible attachments like backhoes and certain PTO attachments, standard hitches are likely more practical so you won’t have to deal with system removal.
